Charlie O's is the "ultimate jazz bar, restaurant" wrote Don Heckman of the LA Times. Charlie O's was voted by Downbeat as one of 100 best jazz clubs in the world three years in a row. "A great Intimate jazz club in the Valley" said Chuck Niles in the November 2003 issue of Sunset Magazine.
Charlie O's is an intimate jazz club and restaurant originally established in 1987. We have been presenting live jazz performances seven nights a week from 8 PM to Midnight since August 17, 2000. Dubbed "a pine paneled watering hole offering a meat heavy menu and jazz" by the LA Weekly, we serve Choice Steaks, Baby Back Ribs, Lobster, Scampi, Salmon, numerous types of salads, an assortment of dinners and sandwiches and a wide variety of classic American food.
Some of the prominent performers include world class drummers Earl Palmer, Roy McCurdy, Frank Capp, Sherman Ferguson, Mike Stephans and Lorca Hart; bassists John Heard, Jennifer Leitham, Chris Colangelo, John Giannelli, Jeff Littleton, Chris Conner; the Dave Pell Octet, Fluorscope -- The Chuck Flores Octet, the Carl Saunders Sextet, the Tony Inzalaco Quintet, vocalist Julie Kelly, guitarists Barry Zweig, Ron Anthony and Mark Waggoner; pianists Danny Grissett, Michael Bluestein, Theo Saunders, Larry Fuller, Tom Garvin, Jon Mayer, Llew Matthews and Tateng Katindig; piano and vocalist Pat Tuzzolino; and monthly guest artists have included such jazz greats as Teddy Edwards, Condi and Pete Candoli, Freddy Hubbard, Don Menza, Pete Christlieb, Red Holloway, Richie Cole, Plas Johnson, Med Flory, Lanny Morgan, Charles Owens, Herman Riley, Rickey Woodard, Benn Clatworthy, Bobby Rodriguez, Scotty Barnhart, Scott Whitfield, Zane Musa, Andy Martin, Bill Reichenbach, Bobby Shew, Carl Saunders, Larry Covelli, Bill Perkins, Ralph Moore, Ernie Watts, Bill Henderson, Spanky Wilson, Diane Witherspoon, Carl Randall, Gil Bernal, Louis Taylor, and many others.
Charlie O's is also a players hang out -- Freddie Hubbard, Don Menza, Plas Johnson, John Heard, Roy McCurdy, Frank Capp, and many others are often here when they have a "night off" just to hang out with the other cats and maybe sit in for a song or two. Special monthly performers include Jack Sheldon and his California Quartet, the Tony Inzalaco Quintet, the Dave Pell Octet, the Pat Tuzzolino Quartet, the Page Cavanaugh Trio, the Nolan Shaheed Quintet and John Heard and Roy McCurdy host a variety of the top Los Angeles jazz greats every weekend.
